Wilford Lamastus

Wilford Lamastus is the Panamanian coffee producer who runs Elida Estate, his family’s farm in Boquete — the operation behind some of the highest coffee prices ever recorded. On the 2024 world-record “Torre” lot he told reporters the estate is “getting to perfect coffee” from one of the world’s best terroirs.1

Story

The Lamastus family has grown coffee at Elida Estate since 1918, spanning four generations.2 Under Wilford’s stewardship the estate pioneered a producer-run private auction alongside the public Best of Panama competition, giving buyers direct access to small, traceable Geisha lots — and it has repeatedly reset the world price record, from the first-ever $1,000/lb coffee in 2019 to the $10,013/kg “Torre” lot in 2024.3

The generational detail is reported but not independently confirmed here: that the estate was founded by Robert Lamastus (1918); that current leadership is split between Wilford Lamastus Sr. and Wilford Lamastus Jr.; and that Wilford Sr. helped found and lead the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama.
