Doubleshot
Doubleshot — written lowercase by the company itself, and registered as doubleshot s. r. o. — is a specialty coffee roastery in Prague, Czech Republic, founded in 2010.1 It runs four cafés in the city under three different names, plus a coffee school and a bakery, and says it buys more than 90% of its green coffee directly from producers it knows personally and visits regularly.12
Not the same company as DoubleShot Coffee Company
A separate and unrelated business, DoubleShot Coffee Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma, has used the name since 2004. The two are different companies in different countries; this note is about the Czech one. Wiki pages that mention “DoubleShot” as a producer’s roaster mean the Prague company.
Why it belongs here: Doubleshot is the Czech Republic’s best-documented entry into the international specialty scene. It is the roastery a Panamanian producer’s own buyer profile is written by, and the only Czech name to win a category at the Nordic Roaster competition — a Nordic-facing contest it arguably should not have been eligible for at all.

How it started: a year on a farm in Panama
The company did not begin with a roaster. It began with three people leaving the country.
Jaroslav Tuček and his two future partners spent a year working on Graciano Cruz’s coffee farm in Boquete, Panama — the farms run on Cruz’s rule that no water touches the coffee, Los Lajones and Emporio (the source does not say which).3 While there they also worked alongside María Ruiz, one of Panama’s largest coffee exporters, which put them in front of buyers from Intelligentsia and Stumptown Coffee Roasters.3
Tuček’s own route in was longer still: a student job at a California café in 2002, then study in Vancouver where he learned to roast at 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters, and afterwards training under the American roaster Jeremy Raths at one of the first Czech specialty roasteries.3 The plan for Doubleshot was drawn up on the flight home and the company opened in Prague in 2010.3
That is an unusually literal version of the Direct trade origin story. Most roasters arrive at buying direct after they have a business; these founders had the farm relationships before they had a roaster, and the connection to Cruz has lasted — Doubleshot publishes his producer profile on its own site, and it is one of the sources this wiki uses for his farms.4

The two-format split is deliberate: sit-down breakfast rooms where people linger, and fast espresso bars in a market hall and a railway-station development where they do not. The coffee school in the same building as the flagship café is the part that matters industrially — it is how a roastery seeds the baristas who go on to compete.

The 2011 result is the notable one. The Nordic Roaster competition hands every entrant the same green coffee, so the only variable left is the roast — and in a field of ten judged by 170 attendees voting on ballot slips, the Czech roastery took the espresso half. The Nordic Roaster note flags that the modern rules restrict entry to roasters “located within the Nordic countries,” which the 2011 field plainly was not; either the rule came later or the early editions ran open.
What it roasts
Doubleshot’s public position is direct relationships rather than a signature style: coffee bought “directly from producers across continents,” with the company’s own pages stressing ethics, ecology and “a fair price from the farms to your cup.”1 Its lots are rotating seasonal releases rather than a fixed range, so individual coffees are not recorded here as facts. One that is documented elsewhere on this wiki is a Costa Rican Typica Mejorada from the Calderón family in Tarrazú, white-honey processed — cited on that variety’s note from Doubleshot’s own product page.5
To verify — the Bolivian Geisha said to be its flagship
The research behind this note reports, from Morning Wines Wiki, that Doubleshot’s “flagship offering is the legendary natural Geisha by the Rodríguez family from their Alasitas farm in Bolivia.” That is a single third-party wiki, and the claim could not be checked against Doubleshot’s own coffee listings — the product-collection URLs tried for this note returned 404. No altitude, cupping score or price is given by any source consulted, and the Bolivia note here records the Rodríguez family’s farms in Santa Cruz without naming Alasitas. Treat the flagship description as unconfirmed.
To verify — "the first Czech roastery to buy direct"
The same third-party wiki states Doubleshot became “the first specialty coffee roastery in the Czech Republic to source directly from coffee producers.” Doubleshot’s own story page does not make that claim, and nothing else consulted supports a priority date.1 It is a plausible description of what the founders did, but it is a first-in-country claim resting on one uncited page.
To verify — who went to Panama, and who owns the company now
Accounts of the founding year in Panama differ. The Coffee Vine describes the three founders together spending a year on Graciano Cruz’s farm;3 the Morning Wines wiki instead tells it as Tuček and his girlfriend Camila working the farm from 2009, with other future team members separately training at 49th Parallel in Canada and on Central American farms. The founders’ surnames also vary by source — The Coffee Vine gives “Kamila” with no surname and “Jaroslav Hrstka,” while every.coffee is reported to give Kamila Sotonová and Jarda Hrstka (that page returned HTTP 403 and could not be read here). Doubleshot’s own site names no founders at all.1 Nothing consulted shows the current ownership structure, so do not describe anyone as today’s owner.
To verify — no auction or cupping-score record
No Best of Panama, Cup of Excellence, ACE or CQI record naming Doubleshot as a winning bidder was found for this note — no lot numbers, no prices per pound, no SCA scores tied to its purchases. Given its producer relationships it is plausible the company has bought high-scoring lots at auction, but plausible is not documented. The three competition results in the table above are the only measured placements recorded here.
